Blake started working at Rainbow Treecare as a technician and Kyle was giving training that day. Blake fell in love at first sight (no not really but definitely was intrigued by Kyle). We didn't really get to know each other until about 4-5 months later.
At the time, Kyles cublicle was right next to Blake's boss at work so we ran into eachother from time to time, but had pretty limited interaction still since Blake was a traveling utility technician working around the US. But, Blake was home for a week break, and some fellow coworkers had a game night, inviting a bunch of us over. After game night Blake had a crush, but left to go back to work to a few days later to Georgia then out to Oregon.
We became friends on snapchat after the game night, and began getting to know each other a bit. We realized we had a bit in common and became friends (still just friends at this point!).
We found out that we both liked the band, The Dirty Heads. We each talked one of our good friends into joining us at the concert so that we could both go and meet up there without having to ask each other on a date. The concert was a great time, and Kyle went online that night and bought a limited edition print from a local artist that's now hanging on our wall (he actually bought me one too as a gift < How cute is that!?)
After the concert and a few group hang outs as just friends, Kyle asked me out on a date (well he knew it was a date -at first I wasn't quite sure to be honest but to my excitement it was a real date). We went to the food truck festival and had a blast. It started pouring rain on us and we found a tent with some fun music to dance to. We decided to just make the most of it and let ourselves get completely soaked, we enjoyed the rain and still had a great time. In a midst of people hunkered down hiding from the rain it was a refreshing and unforgettable first date dancing to a song singing "Make it rain girl make it rain" and being the life of the party.
We went to a concert with another friend and all drank a bit, but Kyle drank the most. We were like magnets, kept subconsciously drifting closer to each other. He ended up finally making the first move by holding hands with me and then grabbed my butt! haha, after that I knew he liked me (only time i'll say thank goodness for the alcohol). We went back to crash at his place, and I slept on the couch while he passed out in his room - he didn't even offer a pillow! After that night though, we started hanging out a bit more in person just the two of us and a relationship started slowly budding - there was just an undeniable connection.
We had been getting quite a bit closer, and a few of our friends and coworkers started to catch on that we were "seeing each other" after Blake's birthday party (Aug 15th). We were really enjoying each other's company and we decided to officially become "boyfriend and girlfriend".
Our relationship felt very natural & happy. Our dogs Sage and Dexter were getting a long really well, and we were spending a lot of time at each other's places, so we decided to move in together. Kyle moved into the house that Blake was renting (along with another roommate).
After a few months of living together, we quickly realized that we wanted to really begin building a home together. We took the plunge and decided to invest in our first home together, moving to Saint Paul, MN and closing on our house on March 9, 2020. We moved in the weekend that the pandemic really started to take hold on our world.
I knew it was coming eventually. There was no way that Kyle was going to surprise me (or so I thought!). Some last minute changes in travel meant that I was flying home on a red-eye flight that landed at 1 AM. I came home, and to my sleepy eyed-surprise, found the front porch lit up with lights, rose petals, and a sweet note on a card waiting for me. I went inside and discovered that Kyle had the entire house lit up with candles, and a pathway of rose petals to the back door. In our backyard he was waiting with cafe lights lining the fences, tiki torches along the pathway, and a roaring bonfire with an adorable table set up with champagne a rose, and candles where he was waiting for me. He got down on one knee after the sweetest little speech and I couldn't say yes quicker, responding "YES! I'll choose you every day"
We're looking forward to a close, intimate and special wedding day together where we can begin our honeymoon the moment we set foot on the island. We've decided to get married at Anse Chastanet in St. Lucia where every detail will be taken care of for us, so that we can relax and focus on each other and the start of our life as newlyweds.
Although we are eloping, we'd still love to celebrate with everyone! Please join us at our after party on May 11 at Baker Park Reserve - Driftwood Shelter in Maple Pains, MN.
