Our Story

9/12/23~present

“Our story is one handwritten by the Lord and is a testament that true love can still be found.”- Kyle and Mel. The way that we met may seem simple to others, but to us it is an answer to fervent prayer and shows that God is faithful to keep His promises. Kyle was praying one evening in the Library at Heartland Baptist Bible College where he attends, asking the Lord to help him be patient in waiting for whom he was about to meet. His future wife. Melanie, who grew up in the Philippines as a missionary kid, had already noticed Kyle at Southwest Baptist Church where they both attend. She recalls the first time she noticed him was when she was singing one Sunday in the choir, “I looked up and said, “that is the most gorgeous man I have ever seen”, says Melanie. She then began to sit in the heartland students' section of the church (even though she had already graduated from there a year earlier) in hopes to gain Kyle’s attention. Kyle also remembers the first time he laid his eyes on Melanie being at church. He was looking for a seat one day in the balcony, when he lifted up his eyes to see a beautiful, brown eyed brunette looking back at him. “She looked up at me as she brushed her bangs out of her eyes” says Kyle, “and all I remember thinking to myself was “Woah!” He had never seen such a beautiful woman in all of his life. Fast forward to that prayer filled night at Heartland where Kyle and Melanie met officially for the first time. After praying Kyle headed for the dorm, but as he was walking out of the library, he saw Melanie and her mother coming down the stairs from the second level. He opened the door for them as they came down and engaged in conversation with them both. Kyle talked with Mrs. Becky out of respect, because she is the dean of women at the school, but he couldn’t keep his eyes off of Melanie who stood next to her. “And what is your name?” Kyle asked. “My name is Melanie”, she replied. Alas, the next 30 mins was filled with questions about each other and curiosity of when they would see one another again. Immediately there was a definite connection and chemistry between the two, and they both departed short of breath, glimpsing back at one another as they walked away. The very next day was Wednesday night service at Southwest. Kyle was on his way to service with the idea and mission of finding the gorgeous girl he had met the night before. “Maybe I can get her to sit with me”, he thought, “but she is way out of my league.” Melanie had the same idea, and was waiting in the foyer of the church waiting for him to walk in. She even had a seat reserved for him next to where her friends where just in case he didn’t have a place to sit. With both having the same mission of seeking out one another, eventually their eyes locked and their faces lit up at the sight of one another. He was looking for a seat, and she just so happened to have an extra spot next to her and her friends. Time and time again, everything just seemed to “fall into place.” From that day forward we are still sitting together and have never desired to sit next to anyone else <3 Each day has been filled with laughter and joy beyond measure. From the very beginning we have both been very transparent with our feelings for one another and communication has been key. If “love at first sight” is possible, we believe we have both experienced it, and found it. We believe what makes our love so perfect is how we base everything we do on prayer, God’s Word, and our dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ. Countless adventures, laughs and Dutch Bros Rebels later; we are ready to take the next step in life together. We invite you all to celebrate our love and marriage on June 29th, 2024, at Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City! We’ll be counting down the days!!
