Megan and Kyle are from the same hometown of Naples, FL but they went to different schools growing up. While they had mutual friends, they didn't officially meet until one fateful night at a college frat party. If you know us now, it's probably the last place you'd expect us to meet. Megan, 21, was finishing her senior year at FSU and Kyle, 22, had just graduated from UCF and was pursuing a career in music. Kyle's band, Orange Juice, was playing a gig for the party and Megan was (& is) a fan of the band. After they finished playing, Megan remembers looking across the courtyard to see Kyle standing there in a lime green shirt with an elephant on it surrounded by a sea of shirtless frat boys. Kyle was truly her elephant in the room. They exchanged numbers that night, October 12, 2012, and went on their first date about a month later when Megan was home for Thanksgiving break. A very Naples, FL first date- they went to Via Miromar Beach. Kyle brought pub subs and coronas and they talked for hours in their beach chairs. Since that beach day in November 2012, Megan moved back to Naples, FL and attended FGCU for her Masters in Occupational Therapy. Kyle advanced as a tennis pro in facilities around Naples. Their biggest shared passion has been traveling and experiencing different cultures. In 2018, they fulfilled a long-planned-out dream of living abroad. They landed in Barcelona, Spain, where they have lived the past 2 years!
After 7 years together, many would say it was a long time coming but the timing was just right. Since moving to Barcelona, their favorite spot to go to in the city to watch sunset and take in the day was Park Guell. This park sits above the city and provides a magical view of the Mediterranean ahead and the mountains behind. The view was enough to put everything in perspective so they would go often to end the day there. On February 9, 2019, Kyle planned a full day of surprises for Megan's 28th birthday. However, the biggest surprise of all came at sunset that day when Kyle brought her to their "secret spot" in Park Guell. He handed her a birthday card with a very thought out letter inside. When Megan looked up from reading it, Kyle was on one knee. They celebrated with champagne and sunset. It was worth the wait.
Megan and Kyle have a passion for traveling and of course, traveling together. In their 8 years together, they have been to 19 countries. From road trips across the US to adventures in South America, Europe, and even the mountains and deserts of Morocco, planning and executing their next ‘adventure’ has been an important part of their relationship. Their biggest adventure yet was living and working as English teachers in Barcelona, Spain for the past two years. All of this aside, their favorite spot to go together and one where they have felt the most connected isn’t at the ‘end of the world’. It is right here in the old, soft Smoky Mountains surrounding Asheville, North Carolina. For years the Roeser clan has been coming to their cabin in the mountains of nearby Waynesville, NC. Some of Kyle’s fondest memories growing up are from trips each Summer up to ‘the cabin’ with his family. It has always been ‘a home away from home’ and it was a place he was eager to share with Megan in the early days of their relationship. They quickly made it a tradition for themselves, coming up every summer to spend some time in their favorite mountains. Whether going for hikes, taking a drive on the winding roads of the Parkway, heading into Asheville for the day, or simply relaxing and grilling out on the cabin porch; it is the perfect place to unwind together and feel more connected with nature and each other.
