Like all good love stories, they met on a dating app. Six months before they actually met, they swiped right on each other and set a date. Kyle cancelled and asked for a rain check. Lyss naturally responded "Have a nice life!" and moved on. Six months later they matched again on Bumble where women have to message first. Lyss sent "Hey! What's up?" and the rest is history.

During the pandemic, Lyss and Kyle discovered a love for National Parks. In the fall of 2022 Kyle suggested a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine. One day after hiking, Kyle said they should stop at a lookout point to watch the sunset before going to dinner. He also suggested she dry her hair for dinner and wear something other than leggings, which she thought was rude, but went along with it. At the lookout they saw a hiker (Kyle's planned engagement photographer) taking photos and Kyle asked him if he could take one of them for Lyss' Instagram. As the hiker was saying "Say cheese!" Kyle got down on one knee and Lyss responded "Are you ****ing kidding me?"
