It all started back in beautiful (and extremely safe) Glendale in 2013. I was playing summer ball for the Glendale Angelenos. About halfway through the season, a new team manager showed up and caught my eye. I wasn’t pitching that day, so I got to relax, hang with some teammates, and enjoy the game from the dugout. A few scoreboard operator errors later, our irritated coach picked me to take over the scoreboard duties, knowing I was an accounting major and “good with numbers”. I eagerly took over knowing I was going to be sitting next to the new manager. Once I got up there, I introduced myself and we talked for the rest of the game. Even though she claims that I was shy at first, it was in fact LAINEY who was shy and blown away by my charm and good looks. As the season went on, I found myself more excited to work the scoreboard, flawlessly I might add, and talk with Lainey than I was to pitch and hang out with my teammates. After hanging out a few times, I asked Lain to go on a date with me. She said “YES!!”, unsuccessfully trying to contain her excitement. I surprised her with Kings tickets and she surprised me by leaving her phone in the bathroom at Staples Center when the Kings scored a goal in overtime and she ran out to celebrate, true story. We truly had a great time and the rest is history!
After almost 7 years with Kyle, I know when something is up. But boy did he keep his cool leading up to the flight for our Hawaii vacay & all the way through to the arrival at our Air BnB on the North Shore of Oahu! Once we got to our little beachfront gem, he quickly suggested a walk on the private beach with one of the local craft beers we picked up on the way. Without hesitation, I popped the can top & walked out ready to explore the area around our lil spot for the next few days. He turned back to “throw some trunks on” & I went ahead to the beach. Feeling #blessed to be there & SO excited to start our vacation, I put my toes in the water & waited for Kyle to join me. As he came down the stairs I noticed that he left his beer on one of the steps...& that, ladies & gents, was the moment I knew *something* was up. Who leaves their beer behind for a Happy Hour walk on the beach?! No one in their right mind, that’s for sure. Naturally, I looked at his pocket but, to my surprise, it appeared nothing was in it. So I was convinced this wasn't the moment. I asked if he wanted to grab his beer but he changed the subject as we started our walk down the empty beach. He was acting a little ~weird~ so I asked if he was alright (in hindsight he was making sure I never saw his backside 👀💍), he brushed me off & we sat down to take in the view & decide on dinner plans. When we stood up to walk back, Kyle said, “first, I have something I want to ask you…” I WAS RIGHT!!! I knew something was up!! I’m positive my smile was bigger than it had EVER been. He got down on a knee and asked me to marry him in the sand as the sun started to set. It was perfect. The love I felt for this man grew even more than I knew possible. That was it. Forever was officially official. With Kyle back to normal, we laughed, kissed, hugged, cheers’d (he finally went to grab his beer), & felt so much happiness together. We sat & watched the rest of the sunset & reveled in the moment for a while - just us.
