On February 18th 2017, Kyle and I met in Savannah, Ga, while we each were out celebrating friends. We ended up at the same bar where Kyle eventually asked me to dance. We danced and then exchanged numbers before parting ways. We both knew the odds of ever seeing each other after that night were very low. However, the next day we started texting and we have talked every day since then for the last three years. I learned that Kyle was a Marine stationed in Beaufort, SC, while he learned that I lived in Atlanta, Ga. Fast forward to St. Patrick's Day, I made my first trip back down to South Carolina for our first official date. Even though we knew the upcoming year was going to be hard between Kyle being deployed for seven months and us only getting weekends together, we knew it was worth the effort. Despite the odds we made it the rest of Kyle's contract with the military and moved in together in November 2018. Nine months later while on a hike, Kyle asked me to marry him, and the rest as they say is history.
Every year at the end of summer my family goes on vacation. This past year, we decided to go the week of my birthday to the beach. Two weeks before we were supposed to leave a hurricane decided to head straight towards the location we were supposed to stay. At the last minute plans changed and we headed north to the mountains instead. (Little did I know Kyle was planning on proposing at the beach that weekend.) We had the best weekend relaxing with my family, and on our way home Kyle suggested we go hiking the next weekend since we never got the chance to on our trip. The next weekend, after a night out with our friends, Kyle woke me up extremely early to go on our hike. Along the hike I kept telling Kyle about this beautiful spot that opens up to the lake. It took forever to find the spot (after almost giving up) but we finally did. We went off the trail to this hidden spot to sit by the lake and reflect on the morning. We were standing on a rock by the water and I was telling Kyle how beautiful it all was, and I turned around right when he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. Even though we had talked about getting engaged I still was in complete shock but of course I SAID YES!
