Travel & Accommodations

The Wedding Website of Kyle Haney and Ciara Caouette
We know that getting to Montenegro takes some planning, and we want the travel side of this trip to feel as smooth as possible. To help with that, we’ve put together everything you'll need to know for your journey to Perast. From navigating Tivat Airport and choosing a rental car to finding the right place to stay in Perast, please read this information carefully so it might alleviate some of your worries. The information below is a carefully gathered guide for all our guests traveling from abroad. Whether you’re landing and heading straight to town or turning the trip into a longer Adriatic adventure, you’ll find clear tips, honest recommendations, and everything you need to arrive with confidence. Trust us, we've done this trip before! Below you’ll find some nearby hotels we recommend, but don’t be afraid to use Airbnb or booking.com to book your own accommodations as well. If anything feels unclear or if you just want advice tailored to your travel plans, please let us know!

Flight

Tivat Airport

The easiest airport for reaching Perast is Tivat Airport (TIV). It’s a small, efficient airport on Montenegro’s coast and is only about 20–25 minutes from Perast by car. Tivat Airport is compact, so getting through passport control and baggage claim upon arrival is usually quick. U.S. citizens don’t need a visa for short stays, so just make sure your passport is valid for your entire trip. If departing from the Tivat airport, we HIGHLY recommend booking an early flight. This airport is small and tends to get crowded and have delays as the day progresses.

Flight

Dubrovnik Airport

Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is an international airport located in Croatia. It is about 1 hour and 20 min away from Perast by car. This airport offers far more airline options than Tivat as it has many European connections.

Travel Note

After Landing...

There are no rideshare apps like Uber or Lyft in Montenegro. But fear not! You have options. Shuttle to your hotel If you need pre-arranged transfer, simply annotate that on your RSVP and our wedding planner will book that for you ahead of time. Taxis Taxis wait directly outside the terminal. They’re metered and reliable, and the drive to Perast is short and scenic (about 30 minutes). Just make sure you have cash (Euros) for payment! Rental Cars If you’d like your own wheels for exploring the Adriadic Coast (which we highly recommend), rental car counters are located inside the airport. Driving is straightforward, and the main coastal road takes you directly to Perast. Of note: Perast is a car-free town, so vehicles cannot enter the city center. If you choose to rent a car, you'll have to park at one of the designated parking areas on the edge of town and take a short walk to your accommodation. Avis Rental Car: AVOID! I cannot stress this enough: do NOT book a rental car with Avis. Trust me when I say they are not staffed/organized appropriately in the Tivat Airport. You will be disappointed with their service; or scammed like Ciara and I were. If you choose to book a rental car, go with one of the reputable companies listed below.

Where to Stay in Perast

Perast is small, charming, and wonderfully walkable. Because the town sits right along the bay and has no cars in its historic center, most accommodations are boutique hotels or renovated stone guesthouses rather than large resorts. Ciara and I have a block of rooms for all our guests at Hotel Conte, but we understand guests may want to book their lodging elsewhere. That's totally fine! You can walk the entire town in about 15 minutes, so no matter where you stay, you'll always be nearby. We’ve listed several recommended hotels below, but here are a few things to know before you book: - Montenegro uses 220v power, so be sure to pick up a converter for your phone charger before you arrive! - Most hotels here have fewer rooms than a typical American hotel, so booking early is smart. - Many rooms face the bay, and the views are the kind you end up taking too many photos of. If a sea-view room matters to you, check the room type when reserving. - Nearly every hotel includes a simple but delicious breakfast including fresh bread, local cheeses, eggs, fruit, and strong coffee. - Most modern hotels have AC, but older stone buildings can vary. If you prefer cooler rooms, double-check the amenities. - Some hotels offer luggage pick-up from the parking area. If that would make your arrival easier, feel free to contact your hotel in advance. Once you’re settled in, everything in Perast is just a short walk away: cafés, restaurants, swimming spots, boat pickups, and of course, the wedding festivities.
