We met at the end of Fall semester our senior year at William & Mary. For months our friend Caleb had been telling us both that we had to meet one another, but neither of us did anything about it. Then one night at College Delly we both happened to be out. Thankfully, the group of friends Bethany was with were talking about math and she spotted Caleb at the bar with a few of his friends. She walked over and was quickly introduced to Kyle. After a night of Bud Lights, Coronas, and a very awkward encounter at Wawa, the rest is history. Several days later Kyle asked Bethany out to Williamsburg Winery where we celebrated our "first date".
In September 2019, Bethany was training for Marine Corps Marathon. Thankfully she doesn't wear jewelry while she runs, which Kyle took advantage of to start the engagement process. On one of her longer runs Kyle snagged her W&M class ring to take to a nearby jeweler and she was none the wiser. At a friend's wedding (Lauren!) in October 2019, Bethany mentioned to Kyle how fun it would be to get married. Kyle jokingly said, like he always did, "I'm never marrying you". Bethany said, "well soon we should have a serious conversation about that". Little did she know that "serious conversation" was going to get "very serious". In November of 2019 we headed down to Williamsburg to celebrate Kyle's 25th birthday with his parents. The Friday we were supposed to leave the water main in Arlington broke prompting an early departure from Arlington and a school closure for Bethany. Unfortunately, Kyle was planning on using that afternoon to call Mr. Bennett to ask his permission to marry Bethany. Luckily, Bethany went for a run and Kyle snuck the call in. When Kyle called, Dan had no idea why he was calling, but obviously gave his permission. After a brief chat about baseball and a pledge of secrecy, they hung up. On Saturday of that weekend we watched a very sad W&M football loss but enjoyed a great dinner to celebrate Kyle's birthday. That Sunday we headed out for a Colonial Williamsburg date night We had a wine tasting at the winery in CW and since it was so nice went for a walk around campus. Kyle suggested the walk to check out the new construction on New Campus, and truly Bethany did not think twice. We stumbled across a "mental health trail" by the Crim Dell and decided to take a look. Once on the bridge we talked about how far we'd come in our relationship over the last three years and everything that had happened in our lives since we graduated. After 20 minutes of chatting, Kyle found himself on one knee asking Bethany to marry him. The answer was an easy "yes".
