Most rental car companies in Italy require an International Driver's Permit. You can obtain an International Driver's Permit by walk-in at any AAA for $20. PLEASE make sure the date is correct on the date you will be arriving in Italy for the rental car company, as some companies will deny you a car if this is incorrect. For those who do not drive manual... please be aware when booking your cars online whether it is automatic or manual. Manual is the most popular in Italy, but of course they offer automatic cars. I strongly discourage electric car rentals. Kyle and I have had trouble in Italy finding charging stations and the correct app online needed to pay the fee.
