This is one of our favorite local spots! DogTap Columbus is the first, and only, BrewDog brewery and taphouse in the U.S. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating, an indoor game room, outdoor cornhole, brewery tours, and the best part.. the outdoor patio is usually filled with dogs!! Whether you’re a craft beer connoisseur, or are just looking for good food and drinks (they do serve more than craft beer!), we definitely recommend checking out this brewery while in town. Lodging Note: If you are opting to stay at the DogHouse during your visit - the DogHouse is connected to the Brewery and taproom.
Downtown Canal Winchester is home to many of our favorite places! There are several antique shops located in the heart of Canal that are locally owned and fun to browse through (this doesn’t qualify as one of Kyle’s ‘favorite’ things). We frequent quite a few locally owned food/drink spots in Canal and would recommend making a stop at any one of the following if you have time during your visit! Canal Wigwam - small, historic diner with a delicious menu Shade on the Canal - bar and grill, we recommend their boneless wings and fried pickles Loose Rails Brewing - micro-brewery and taproom Fantasy Cupcakes - cupcakes, coffee + more
This is another local favorite of ours! Combustion is a micro-brewery located in the heart of Pickerington. They often have live music and a food truck, and always have a good selection of board games! This brewery offers a really cool environment and we would definitely recommend checking it out if you are looking for a relaxed evening out!
Did someone say ice cream?! This is our #1 soft-serve spot during the summer! We definitely recommend making a pit stop at this literal hut during your visit! We recommend the S’mores Sundae, Black Raspberry in a waffle cone, or an old fashioned Root Beer Float... but, to be honest, anything you have there will be delicious!
If you’re looking for a night out in the city or a chance to do some casual shopping/browsing during the day, the Short North is a must-see! There are endless food + drink options, small shops, and art galleries along High Street. When we lived closer to downtown, we spent a lot of time in this area!
Home of Columbus’ minor league baseball team, the Columbus Clippers, Huntington Park is a great stop for baseball fans and hot-dog lovers alike! If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity during your weekend in Columbus, we definitely recommend checking out the Clippers schedule!
If you’re looking to get outdoors and also get a good view of Columbus’ skyline, we recommend taking a trip to the Scioto Audubon Metro Park. This park offers a walking/biking trail, obstacle courses, a dog park and a rock climbing wall - all with a great view of Columbus’ western/southern skyline. As an added bonus, this park is located less than one mile from Columbus’ Brewery District!
If you’re looking for more of an outdoor experience while visiting, look no further than Hocking Hills! This is one of our favorite spots to get outside and get a short hike in with Leo. There are several trails to choose from, all of which lead to beautiful views. We would most recommend Old Man’s Cave and Cedar Falls for first-time visitors!
