We first met at a local 5K race. We ran together the entire time and really pushed each other to do our best, it was our first 5K after all. We crossed the finish line one right after the other. We had both officially survived our first 5K, and little did we know, in just 10 short months, we would actually say hello to each other. 10 months later, a mutual friend drug both of us to one of those soap, dirt and slip 'n slide 5k's. After saying "hey, how's it goin?" we ran the race and went our separate ways. It wasn't until a couple days later I (this is Kyle typing by the way) asked the same mutual friend "What's up with your girl Jean?" That led to a week of back and forth texts leading up to our first date that Friday. We met at local Mexican joint for some drinks and conversations. I was told by our mutual friend that Jean is a headstrong woman who doesn't mess around. I put that to the test almost immediately by bringing up my love of Star Wars and how it is FAR superior to both Star Trek and Harry Potter! Luckily, no one was harmed in that debate. We decided to go on a second date the next day to stretch our photography muscles out at Middleton Place. As we were walking around taking pictures of all the flowers and alligators, we stopped in a lush field of grass (and everyone should know how much I like lush field's of grass) to rest for a moment. It was in that moment as we were sitting looking out over the gorgeous landscape, that both of us had a feeling about the other. In that moment it was unspoken, but deep down both of us knew that we were going to be running together and pushing each other for the rest of lives.
This was the weekend we decided to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. We decided that the day we went out on our first date, March 30, 2018, would be our annivesary. So the last saturday of March rolled around and I (this is Jean this time) was trying to plan a special way to celebrate, which was proving to be difficult since we were now at the beginning of a pandemic and couldn’t safely go anywhere. I ended up putting an order in for a special dessert basket to be delivered and we found a nice resturant we could pick up dinner from. To make it special we opened up a bottle of wine, Century sweet red from Biltmore, the only wine we both agree on, and had dinner on the back patio. Kyle mentioned a few times he was sorry we couldn’t do anything more special or romantic but I assured him it wasn’t about where we go or what we do it was that we were together and thats all that mattered. It was after we had finished dinner and we were finishing our glass of wine that he just turned his chair toward me, got down on one knee and asked. I actually don’t remember what he said I was just so surpised and happy. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
