Paddle boarding was the very first thing we did when moved to Austin in 2022! We fell in love with the view of the downtown skyline from the lake and made this a weekly activity the following summer (shoutout the the Arsitio's for gifting us SUP for Christmas that year)! Watch the Bats at Congress Avenue Bridge: One of Austin’s most unique attractions is the largest urban bat colony in North America. From March through October, thousands of bats emerge from beneath the Congress Avenue Bridge at sunset. It’s a quick, memorable experience and completely free—perfect for visitors looking for something distinctly Austin.
Austin is famous for its food, especially BBQ and tacos. Be sure to try local favorites like Franklin Barbecue, Interstellar BBQ, or La Barbecue for world-class BBQ, and Torchy’s Tacos or Veracruz All Natural for iconic tacos. South Congress Avenue is one of Austin’s most beloved neighborhoods. Lined with boutique shops, local restaurants, coffee spots, and iconic murals, it’s perfect for strolling and people-watching. Don’t miss the photo opportunity at the “I Love You So Much” mural and the view of the Texas State Capitol at the north end of the street.
The Texas State Capitol is one of Austin’s most impressive landmarks and is even taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Located within Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool is a natural spring-fed pool that stays a refreshing 68–70°F year-round. It’s a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike and a great way to cool off after exploring the city. Zilker Park also offers wide open green space with skyline views—perfect for picnics or relaxing outdoors.
East Austin is known for its creative energy, street art, vintage shops, and unique local businesses. It’s also home to some of the city’s best restaurants and bars. Exploring this area gives visitors a feel for Austin’s artistic side and laid-back culture.
Spring is peak wildflower season in Central Texas. In and around Austin, you’ll spot bluebonnets and other colorful blooms along roadsides, parks, and trails. Popular spots include Zilker Park, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and scenic drives just outside the city—great for photos and a true Texas spring experience.
