We met through a mutual friend on Instagram in May 2021. Kwasi and I started messaging back and forth, mostly sharing funny Instagram stories. After some time, he asked for my number so we could text instead of staying in the DMs (looking back, I think that was his plan all along đ). Our first phone call lasted for hours, and in that moment, I thought, hmmm⊠Kwasi might be seeing this as more than just friendship. So I asked him what his intentions were. He said he was trying to get to know me as a friend. Honestly, I didnât fully believe him or maybe I just didnât want to because I wasnât in the headspace for a relationship at the time. We continued talking as friends and we met in person for the first time at a mutual friendâs wedding in Chicago. We ended up hanging out downtown with a group of friends and got to know each other even better. After Chicago, our friendship continued to grow. Our conversations became more frequent, trust deepened, and we became close in a way that felt effortless. Even though we were very close, we both continued on our individual paths. Every few months, weâd check in, catch up, and share what had been happening in each otherâs lives. Interestingly, every time we reconnected, our bond grew even stronger. During one of these check-ins, Kwasi randomly blurted out, âDollar, are you this close with everyone? Because this isnât common.â I laughed and said, âYeah, I am,â hindsight that wasnât entirely true. Our communication tapered off for a few months until we reconnected again in early 2024. Coincidentally, we were both assigned to preach on the same Sunday at our local church. After writing our sermons, we practiced by listening to each other. I will never forget this day or my excitement because it was my first Sunday sermon ever and such a great bonding moment with Kwasi. A few days later, Kwasi reached out and asked, âDollar, at this point, what are we waiting for?â I told him to pray about it. But instead, I found myself really reflecting and asking⊠why not? I spent time praying and seeking Godâs face about whether to move forward. I was nervous... Kwasi was my best friend, and I didnât want to risk losing that if things didnât work out. But I chose to let faith override fear. After speaking with a few trusted people around me, I decided to take Kwasi up on his offer if it was still on the table. Surprised by the turn of events, Kwasi said he needed a day to pray about it and promised to get back to me. The next day, he returned with clarity, and together we decided to give love a chance. In October 2025, Kwasi proposed marking the moment when patience met promise. Now, we stand grateful for every step, every pause, and every season God used to prepare us. What began as a friendship has grown into a testimony of trust, timing, and faith. And as we step into this next season of our love story, we do so with full hearts, excited, thankful, and confident that the same God who brought us together will continue to lead us forward.
