From One Swipe to Forever

We met the modern way—a dating app. In true rom‑com fashion, Stef actually swiped past Kurtis the first time. Fortunately, the universe (or the app developers) had other plans. He reappeared the next day like a glitch we’re eternally grateful for. From there, we sent video messages back and forth for about three weeks, basically auditioning to see who was funnier. When our first date finally arrived, we were so excited we FaceTimed the entire hour‑and‑a‑half drive until Kurtis pulled into Stef’s driveway—because nothing says “this might be serious” like risking having nothing left to say before the date even begins. (Spoiler: we didn’t run out.) Our first date was golf—a casual choice that turned into a full‑blown shared obsession. What was supposed to be a simple outing ended up becoming the backbone of our weekends, our vacations, and eventually… our garage. Yes, Kurtis built a golf simulator so we could keep “first dating” all winter long. We had our first date on September 14, 2024, and by June 1, 2025, Kurtis had moved in with Stef and Bruce in Sicamous. The timeline makes no sense on paper, but perfect sense to us. Our first year together was a whirlwind: Vegas, San Diego, and Calgary to watch Kurtis coach the Las Vegas Desert Dogs; adventures in Nashville; a Mexico trip with the Dandi’s; and more rounds of golf than any healthy couple should play. We bought a boat—3 Nice Things—and spent endless days on the lake with friends, with Kurtis’ kids Levi and Kip, and with Bruce, who quickly became Boat Captain, Snack Inspector, and Lifeguard (self‑appointed). He supervised every splash, every snack, and every questionable docking attempt. Somewhere in that beautiful chaos of travel, lake days, garage golf, and matching outfits (tracksuits, safari hats, coordinated bathing suits—you name it), we realized we’d found our perfect match. Even Bruce agreed, and he does not hand out approval easily. Then came the proposal. Kurtis proposed on our favourite beach—now officially Proposal Point—and in a beautifully accurate reflection of our relationship, Stef was wearing sweatpants, Crocs, and a Costco hoodie, holding a tequila in one hand and a Ziploc bag of pickles in the other. Truly, a vision. A queen. A woman prepared for anything, including a surprise engagement. It was perfect—unfiltered, hilarious, unplanned, and so us. Kurtis was everything Stef didn’t think she wanted, and somehow everything she absolutely needed. And Stef is everything Kurtis hoped existed in the world—including someone who will play 18 holes before noon and then ask if there's time for nine more. Our life together is endless fun, so much laughter, nonstop adventure, and one extremely charismatic dog who believes this wedding is actually about him. We can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with you.
