Kurt and Erica met through Hinge in January 2024. They lived in not only separate cities at the time but also different states; with Kurt in Georgia and Erica in South Carolina. After a couple weeks of chatting and a five hour video call, Kurt drove up to meet Erica in person. Their first date was seeing a movie, which ended up turning into dinner and then an evening spent at Dave & Buster's. By April they were moving in together with the help and support of both families. In August at Ruby Falls in Georgia, Kurt proposed to Erica in front of the waterfalls. At the end of September, Kurt and Erica found out they were expecting their first child. Arriving a month early, Maricela 'Mari' Lynn Smith was born on Cinco de Mayo the next year weighing just over four pounds. Together they enjoy watching movies (horror and action thrillers being common), playing Baldur's Gate 3 together, traveling, spending time with family, and making each other laugh.
