Our Story & The Story of the Venue

Austin and Olivia met in 2018 in their Honors Archaeology lab group at DePaul University — and instantly clicked. What started as easy friendship quickly turned into something special, even if it took a few years (and a little timing) to realize it. After graduation, they reconnected, went on their first date, and the rest, as they say, was history. In no time, Austin became part of Olivia’s beloved “girl family” — featuring Wednesday, the black cat with endless sass, and Piper, the golden retriever with boundless joy. Together, they’ve spent the past five years exploring Chicago, traveling the world, indulging in great food, and chasing thrills on every roller coaster they can find. In February 2025, on a whirlwind trip through Spain, Austin proposed in Jaén — the country’s olive oil capital — and Olivia said yes. Now, they can’t wait to celebrate their love in their dream venue: The Rookery Building in Chicago. A true gem of Chicago’s architectural history, The Rookery Building was completed in 1888 by the famed firm Burnham & Root and is one of the city’s earliest skyscrapers. Its name, “The Rookery,” nods to its past as a gathering place for rooks (a type of bird). In 1905, a young Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to redesign its stunning interior — a project that remains his only surviving work in downtown Chicago. Designated a Chicago Landmark in 1972, The Rookery stands as a timeless symbol of innovation, beauty, and enduring love — the perfect setting to begin the next chapter of Austin and Olivia’s story.
