How We Met

10/16/2020

Some of the best stories start with someone who wasn't even supposed to be there. That's how we met, at a wedding where Taylor technically wasn't invited. I (Peyton) was a bridesmaid for one of my high school best friends, and Taylor came as a plus-one to another bridesmaid's husband. A guest of a guest, barely making the cut. But we ended up talking basically the entire reception. Not in a dramatic, love-at-first-sight way, we just clicked. The conversation was easy, and before we knew it, hours had passed. When the wedding wound down, neither of us wanted to call it a night, so a group ended up at his place for an after-party of sorts. Everyone else eventually left or fell asleep, but Taylor and I kept talking. The next day, I realized I didn't have his number. I had to track down another bridesmaid to get it, using the excuse that my friend Abby had lost her retainer at his house and I couldn't find my perfume (both very expensive items that needed to be found). Taylor is convinced to this day that I made up the perfume thing just to have a reason to text him. In my defense, I really thought I'd left it there. But when I found it a few days later in the backseat of my car, a clear bottle that had blended perfectly into the seat, I had to admit he might have a point. The retainer was real, though. And so was everything that started that night.
