Collin and Emily both worked at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado. Collin was a ski instructor and Emily was a Snowmaker and Lift Operator. They ran in the same crowds for two years but didn't officially meet until a winter evening at Eldo's Open Mic Night where Collin's first words to Emily were "can you guard my harmonicas for a minute please?". Emily guarded the harmonicas with her life as she wondered who this man was and why these harmonicas needed "guarding". Upon returning they struck up conversation, when they learned of their shared Midwest upbringing and similar solo quest to the west. After kicking it off they exchanged numbers and made plans to meet later that week.
Collin had driven to Emily's house to pick her up for dinner and a show on a cold February evening in Colorado. After meeting her and admiring her beauty it was time to hop in the Land Yacht, Collin's Ford Econoline, and hit the town. He pat down his pockets, grew anxious, and then asked, "do you have a butter knife and a wire clothes hanger? I locked my only set of keys in the van". After MacGyvering our way into the van and laughing our way through the problem we followed through with our evening plans and danced the night away.
