Meet The Couple

Question

Meet Ira

Answer

Ira has lived many lives over the years: actor, stage manager, drag artist, game developer, and so much more. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, they have one younger brother, and though they spent many years working in events, they are now (once again!) a full time student. They are currently finishing up their BA after a five year break, double majoring in Theatre and History, with hopes of one day combining their game design skills with their love for museums to make interactive exhibits. Having cursed themself with an encyclopedic knowledge of musical theatre, they also love learning about jewish history and disability studies, and enjoy writing (fan)fiction in their spare time. Aside from that, they can’t wait to properly adopt Pockets and Pigeon sooner than later, and love to play video games with KT, even if they constantly accuse Ira of being the game’s favourite.

Question

Meet KT

Answer

KT was born and raised in Kentucky. They have two younger brothers that like their sister enough to have let her cheat at just about every game they've played together for as long as anyone can remember. After getting a degree in International Studies, it seems the only thing KT has used it for is to fall in love with a Canadian.. which was more than worth it in their humble opinion! They are currently managing volunteer activities at a food bank in Ohio, though if you ask her in a few years she may deny ever having lived in Ohio in the first place. KT has two cats, Pockets and Pigeon, and thinks that there is no better media in the world than Mamma Mia: both the musical and the movies. Their favorite pizza toppings are both pineapple and green olives and they won't be shamed about it. They love scifi, definitely a Star Trek girlie, but will readily admit to being only a casual fan. Beyond that, she has made loving the color yellow and hating pickles her entire personality.

Question

Our Story

Answer

Picture this: it's February, 2021. Everything is still in lockdown– no vaccines, everyone stuck at home. Across countries we meet–where else–the internet: on a chaotic voice call with too many people in it. We already have friends in common, it turns out; in fact, they are the same ones that encouraged me (Ira) to join the call in the first place. Friendship blooms quickly and by the end of the year we have matching profile pictures and are (virtually) inseparable. Another year passes. KT reads everything I write. We talk nearly every night, mostly on calls with our Ten Best Friends Including Ourselves. I make KT playlists for their birthday and add to it during the year each time I hear a song that makes me think of them. We make stories, look at a lot of houses on Zillow, play video games, and make each other laugh again and again. Now picture this: We’ve made it to 2023. I (KT) have received two birthday playlists from Ira. It’s September, I’m driving with the new playlist on (it’s all I have listened to for two months), and I suddenly realize that all of these songs are love songs: I finally think about the lyrics and who sent them to me. And in a single, embarrassingly delayed moment, I realize that I’m in love with Ira, and they’re in love with me. Less than a week later I’ve sent them the most rambling and awkward message trying to explain my feelings. And I get an equally rambling message back. When we tell our Ten Best Friends Including Ourselves, we hear “I’m not surprised” or "We saw that coming" eight different ways and it felt all the more inevitable. We've discovered that long distance is not for the weak. We call every night, Ira still makes me playlists, I send cat pictures, we watch shows and play video games. In our two years as a couple we've been physically in the same room for 101 days. We get to bake together, go see shows, visit museums. We tell each other often that the distance is hard but the love is easy. I can't wait for what's next.

For all the days along the way
