How We Met

4.13.14

Krystyl and Kyle met their freshman year of college at the University of California, Irvine (zot zot zot! 🤘) in the only class their two wildly different majors would cross paths in—a required general education course. Anthropology! Krystyl thought the back of Kyle's head (and the front) looked cute so she set out to connect with him under the pretenses of studying. They got to know each other that quarter by walking together after class, grabbing coffee, making plans to study but actually just flirted the whole time (Krystyl got her first C on a midterm that quarter), and exploring hidden corners of the university. They officially became a couple on April 13th, 2014 and are so thrilled to be able celebrate their marriage with their favorite people on their 10-year anniversary! 💖

The Proposal

11.27.22

Seattle is a special place to both of us. We first visited in 2016 with a few of our friends and took silly photos together at Gas Works Park. One of which is still my (Kyle) Facebook cover photo to this day. 🥰 When I planned to propose to Krystyl, I hoped it'd be in the same spot. Under the pretenses of a trip to Seattle for Friendsgiving, I arranged for a photographer and videographer to capture the moment and I enlisted our friends' help to have Krystyl's hands ready for the day 💅 When I went to scope out the park, the place I wanted was closed for repairs 💔 But a friend of ours and I scouted out some alternatives and found a beautiful area in the park with aesthetic fall foliage that I knew Krystyl would die for. 🍂 The day of the proposal Krystyl totally knew what was happening but didn't know exactly when. The nails thing was kind of obvious, and I told her to change into something nice 💃 I was also acting weird and disappearing for large pockets of time to set-up 🤪 When proposal time came, we met our friends at the park for a "picnic." We went on a walk, just the two of us, and I led Krystyl to the prearranged spot. We approach to find LARPers in the field nearby hitting each others' plastic shields with plastic swords. Thankfully our photographer asked them to move a bit so they weren't in the way, but it was a good distraction for Krystyl so I could hit her with a "this is the moment we've been waiting for". I got on one knee, she said yes, she got a very sparkly ring, caught on hidden camera, our photographer appeared from the bushes, friends appeared from the bushes, we all hugged, took lots of photos, Krystyl cried a little, we told all our family and friends who weren't there, and basked in the glow of our engagement over Ethiopian food. The end! ✨

The Ceremony

9.28.23

*Ok Google, play "September" by Taylor Swift* Krystyl and Kyle officially wed in an intimate courthouse ceremony in Santa Barbara on the 28th of September in 2023. The couple exchanged private vows the night before, and were married in the courtyard of the stunning Santa Barbara Courthouse, surrounded by their immediate family. Photos from the special day are shared in the photo gallery. 👰🏻🤵🏻💍✨
