Let's just say that we were both working that night in Nanuet, New York. But only one of us was actually getting paid. Jack came in to a busy new restaurant where I was working as a Regional Trainer and where HE began working on getting a date. After his spiel of "Having Time vs Making Time" wasn't enticing enough, he settled for a phone number. Honestly, the fact that his opening line involved, "What time do you get off?" and "Well, what are you doing at 10:05? Grabbing a drink with me? Good call," could have been his downfall... but his persistence made him stand out. A few days later paths crossed again and a few more failed attempts at acquiring a first date were made but FINALLY there was an agreement. The next evening spent indulging in late night appetizers where the conversation flowed easily (almost as easily as the wine), changed our lives forever. Well, ultimately led to our forever.
"Why do you love me?" was the topic of our conversation before going to bed the night before. After going on and on, it was his turn. He said, "I'll tell you tomorrow." He didn't just tell. He showed. If you ask him, he'll say he just threw up the ring and it landed on my finger. PSA: Don't ask him. The real story is how we had a weekend getaway trip to Napa and the morning of us leaving he could not sit still. Nerves took over. I had never seen him like that but attributed it to the fact that his dad said he could drive his brand new car. Not the fact that he was holding a beautifully crafted diamond ring he was planning on giving me later that day to ignite the spark of a forever journey. If I had known that, I wouldn't have given him such a hard time! The most memorable part was not the nerves. It wasn't the dress I was wearing. Nor was it the fact that it was overcast and a little cold that day. It was that he took me somewhere that was special to us. He had someone capture the entire walk to take pictures to the bending down on one knee itself and even the priceless reactions after. And to top it off, what is a better way to celebrate as newly engaged than to take part in a five course chef's table dinner at a bucket list restaurant with menu's awaiting our arrival with "congratulations!" written at the top?! Oh I know, waking up the next day sipping on piping hot coffee in pajamas sitting across from a man who loves you more than life itself and getting to spend forever with him.
