We first met in high school through mutual friends. Back then, Jacob may or may not have “borrowed” a few answers from Krysten’s math tests. We stayed friends throughout high school, but it wasn’t until our second year of college—while navigating long distance—that our friendship turned into something more.
During college, we were nearly 1,000 miles apart — Krysten in Savannah and Jacob in Lowell. Long distance wasn’t always easy, but we made it ours. We spent countless nights on FaceTime and Snapchat — watching movies at the same time, playing games, and even doing face masks together over video call. We celebrated the little things, stayed up way too late talking, and learned how to show up for each other even from far away. Whenever school breaks came around, we finally got to be in the same place again. Those reunions were the best — and the goodbyes were the hardest. There were always a lot of tears before heading back to our separate campuses, but we knew it was always worth it. When COVID changed the world, it changed our story too. Jacob was visiting Georgia when lockdowns began, and what was supposed to be a short trip turned into an unexpected season living together in Savannah. Later, Krysten returned to Massachusetts with him, finishing her final classes virtually until graduation. After Jacob graduated and began his career, we took our next big step — moving to Ohio and getting our first place together. After years of distance, we were finally in the same place, building our life side by side.
In September 2024, we set off on an unforgettable adventure to explore Utah’s five national parks. On September 5th, beneath the breathtaking Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Jacob got down on one knee and proposed in front of a crowd of fellow adventurers. Krysten said yes! A few days later in Zion National Park, Krysten had a surprise of her own. At the top of Observation Point, she proposed to Jacob—and of course, he said yes right back. To make it even more meaningful, we each personally designed one another’s engagement rings and wedding bands, creating pieces that tell our story from both sides.
