How We Met

An Online Dating Success Story

In January 2019, Daniel and Krystal met on Coffee Meets Bagel, proving that dating apps can have successful matches. Daniel was living and working in Florida at the time, while Krystal was in DC. It was a small detail that Daniel may or may not have left out of his dating profile and Krystal may or may have not overlooked. It's a detail that they joke about to this day. They texted almost every day for a couple months until Daniel could fly to the District for their first date, where they dined at Daikaya, a ramen noodle restaurant. Daniel showed up with a rose in hand as an apology for having had to delay their first date for so long because of his job. After dinner, they took a stroll along Old Town's waterfront to view an art display. Really, it was just an excuse for the two to spend the rest of the evening talking and learning about one another.

The Proposal

Shhhh! It's a surprise!

Hi, Daniel here! Proposals are exhausting. So much planning and I may have gone a little overboard with the white lies. Let's start with some details leading up to the proposal. The Ring and Set Up: Talk about cutting it close. The ring arrived on December 30th for a planned proposal of December 31st. The same day that I was supposed to pick up the ring was the same day Krystal decided to look at some more options at the same place. Same place but thankfully different times. Krystal went at 10 AM and I went at 1 PM. With the ring in hand, all that was left was to convince Krystal to head to our first date spot. Leading up to the 31st, I had convinced Krystal that my coworkers wanted to have a NYE brunch in Old Town, Alexandria. Problem solved! The Proposal: The weather was not ideal whatsoever, foggy and cloudy, but there was no going back. When we arrived at Old Town I told Krystal that my coworkers needed more time to get ready and that we should take a walk along the waterfront. It was there that I shared the story of our first date and how I had paid for a flight that weekend from Florida to see her and go on our first date. All this time, she thought I had been in town for a work expensed trip to DC. Shortly after I popped the question and she said yes! The last white lie I had to reveal was that sadly, there was no brunch but there was a reserved table for us at a restaurant nearby. We ate, laughed, and shared the good news with family. And now we're here.
