From a Stop Sign to Forever

After eight years (and countless “so when are you getting married?” questions), Dalton and Krystal are officially tying the knot! Over the years, life together has been equal parts adventure, chaos and lots of laughter. They’ve been through job changes, big life moments and some really tough times—but no matter what, they’ve always shown up for each other. For these two, having fun has always been the goal—from trips to Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Chicago and Cabo to weekends closer to home—camping by the river near Chamberlain or exploring the Black Hills—there’s always an adventure on the calendar. They love a good concert, football or hockey game, sprint car race, a round of golf or a cruise in Dalton’s 1977 Ford pickup—but just as often, you’ll find them at home hanging out with their dog Archie… who is very clearly in charge! Somewhere along the way, it became clear this was something special. After a St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl in Vermillion, Dalton walked Krystal home, and a few blocks from her house, they stopped at a stop sign—and that’s when things got serious. Krystal said, “Dalton, I really like you.” “That’s good,” he said. “I really like you too.” She looked at him and said, “No… you don’t understand. I like really really like you.” Dalton grabbed her hand and said, “I love you too, Krystal,” and kissed her right there at the stop sign before walking her the rest of the way home. To this day, “I really really like you” still makes a regular saying in their home. Fast forward a few years, and Dalton decided it was time to make things official. On December 19—the day before Krystal’s 30th birthday—Dalton planned a special night out, starting with Christmas lights at Falls Park before dinner at Minervas in downtown Sioux Falls. While walking around the park, they found a cute display near the Queen Bee Mill ruins. As Krystal turned to tell Dalton how beautiful the lights were—there he was, down on one knee! “Krystal Lynn Schoenbauer, will you marry me?” She laughed (of course), completely surprised—and said yes! With family secretly nearby capturing the moment—and after Dalton had asked for her parents’ blessing earlier that day—it was the perfect start to an unforgettable weekend! And because one surprise wasn’t enough, the next day he followed it up with a birthday party bus celebration full of family and friends. After eight years, a home, countless memories and one very spoiled dog, Dalton and Krystal are so excited for what’s next—and even more excited to celebrate with all of you!
