We met on a medical mission trip in Nicaragua. Krystal was one of two physician assistant students and Brad was a first year medical student volunteering. Our days were spent in rural clinics and our evenings were spent playing cards, mostly euchre, and board games with each other. Brad and Krystal were paired together for clinic one day, Brad says that is when he first became interested in Krystal because she was smart and helped teach Brad medical exam skills he hadn't yet learned in medical school. This interest turned into many nights of cards together and then a dinner trip to beach on the Pacific Ocean where Brad and Krystal took their first picture together. The icing on the cake was getting paired next to each other on their flight home because as fate would have it, H and J last names fall in the alphabet near each other. Brad peaked Krystal's interest on the plane flight home where he humored her in playing crossword puzzles with her the entire flight home. They ran into each other a week or two after the trip back in Toledo, Ohio at the outdoor lunch spot on the medical campus and Brad asked Krystal to go on a date and the rest is history.
It was Saturday September 16, 2017. Brad and Krystal had already looked at rings. She was suspicious as to when an engagement might happen. This weekend was Brads only chance to pop the question for several weeks with upcoming family and friends weddings and busy work schedules. Friday night, Brad and Krystal shared a date night together going to the new brewery down the street. They came home and sat on the patio outside together and to Krystal's dismay, no proposal came. She thought, if it didn't happen tonight then it won't be happening for a while. Brad would never propose on an Ohio State football game Saturday? They decided to get brunch with friends the next morning, or at least that is what Krystal thought. A quick walk in the park with Kudu before, Brad planned, so she would get some exercise before a day spent out with friends. On that walk, Brad starting peeking around in the flower beds oddly. He pulled out several dozen bunches of roses hidden for Krystal. Krystal immediately knew what was happening. At their favorite park, Schiller Park, in their German Village, Brad got down on one knee and asked Krystal to marry him. With Kudu as their only witness, she said yes. Brad planned the day with celebration, Krystal's parent's were already on their way to Columbus. They had brunch and celebratory drinks with friends and family.
