North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher
Great place to visit while in town. This is only a short ferry ride away in Kure Beach. Take the Ferry from Southport to Fort Fisher to get there.
Southport
Southport is a wonderful town to spend time in. There are many things to do in the area. But just browsing around the downtown is a great way to spend your time here. You can walk along the river and enjoy some of the many swings lining the river. This a great place to see the small beach area and check out the pier.
Fishy Fishy Cafe
Fishy Fishy Cafe is a well known seafood restaurant in Southport. This restaurant was featured in the movie Safe Haven! Enjoy dinner or lunch with a fantastic view of the river.
Fort Johnston-Southport Museum & Visitors' Center
Southport has a cute little museum that gives a little bit of the history of Southport. This museum won’t take you very long to walk through but it will give you a glimpse in the history of the city and all of the famous movies that have been filmed here. Safe Haven, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and a Walk To Remember are just a few.
Oak Island Lighthouse
If you’re looking for a little bit of a drive, about 20 minutes. The Oak Island Lighthouse is a beautiful place to visit. This is one of North Carolina’s many lighthouses and you can enjoy walking around the outside and then hit the beach after. If you want to go up in the lighthouse please check out their website to book a reservation.
The Christmas House
If you’re in the mood for a little bit of shopping. Go and check out Southport’s Christmas House. This store is a year round Christmas store! This is in walkable distance to all of the other shops in town.
Bald Head Island Ferry
If you want an activity that will take a day to do, go and visit Bald Head Island! This island is car free so you will have to reserve a golf cart to get around once you are at the island. They have a great lighthouse here as well! This lighthouse is called Old Baldy. Please visit Bald Head Island’s website to get all travel information!
Southport Tap and Cellar
This a great local bar that Jermey and I visited a few times while we were in Southport. This bottle shop has a great atmosphere and a great selection!
The Mullet Bar
This bar is right on the water! This would be a great place to grab a drink after eating dinner at Fishy Fishy Cafe or one of the other restaurants on the river.
