We’re RINGing in the New Year & getting MARRIED!

Believe it or not, social media brought us together. Chris reached out to me via Instagram the day after Christmas, 2015. It must have been the holiday spirit that moved me to respond because I normally ignored any advances towards me on that particular site. It also might have had a lot to do with him resembling my crush, Dwyane Wade. ;) We engaged in conversation, and he asked me on a date for that evening. I thought to myself, "Wow, he's bold; I haven't even been talking to him 3 days yet!" I declined the date because it was too short notice and odd, but the more I thought about it, and the more he made me laugh, I decided to give him an alternate day that I was available. At the time, I was in nursing school, living in Greensboro, so he drove from Durham to take me to dinner. We had the best time eating our favorite meal, sushi. Little did we know that first date would eventually lead us to being best friends, parents & now, husband and wife. We've been smiling ever since!

Chris proposed at our son, Cairo's, 1st birthday party. A lot of our family and friends were in attendance and he completely caught me by surprise. We were singing Happy Birthday to Cairo, thanking everyone for coming and inviting them to eat cake. Chris began to speak about how proud he was to be Cairo's father, then began to praise me as a mother. I was flattered. Then he followed with the statement I will never forget -- "So today, I want to make our family official...," and while still holding our son, he got on one knee with the ring in his hand. It was such a beautiful moment. That day will be cherished in our hearts forever, for more reasons than one.
