It was the summer before our third year at UCSB and we had both just moved into new apartments for the school year. My new roommates invited me over to go see their friend's new place, just a half block away. This was the first time I met Evan. For the next two years I would occasionally see Evan on campus and at different events, always saying hi before we went on our way. In January 2014, I enrolled at Santa Barbara City College to begin the prerequisites I needed to apply for nursing school. On the first day of class I looked up from my seat and saw Evan standing there. After class, I went over to say hi as he stood in line to see if he could get a spot in the class. When we got to the front of the line the instructor said she had room in the afternoon lab and asked if that would work for him. He said yes and I was thrilled because that happened to be the lab I was in! After our first lab class we went to go get fish tacos on the beach and talked for a couple of hours. After that day we became inseparable spending lots of time studying together and spending our free days on the beach.
On the day of the proposal, we were in the midst of a short vacation in San Diego. I had decided to pop the question months prior, which allowed me some time to do some research and look into the perfect spot to ask. I wanted the proposal to be near the beach and after looking into and visiting some potential spots, I decided that the cliffs of La Jolla would be ideal! On August 4th, 2018, I disguised the proposal by telling Kristy there was a hike I wanted to show her that I had done in the past. I probably should have told her about the hike ahead of time because she was not in the right shoes, but I wanted to keep it a surprise. The hike wasn’t the easiest and required some climbing so Kristy took off her sandals at one point to complete the hike. After about 45 minutes, we finally made it to the top! Kristy bent over to put her sandals back on and when she came back up I was down on one knee and asked the question. She said yes!
