On Sunday May 15, 2016, Kristy was scheduled to work her nursing shift, but the hospital was overstaffed, and they gave her off the day last minute. She ended up going out with friends and she would walk right up to the bar to order a drink, where she found herself standing next to Chris, who was on a two-week vacation between leaving his career at Merck and starting his doctorate program. Kristy was wearing a black and white tie dye shirt, and Chris would cleverly ask her which load of laundry she washed it in "lights or darks?" The two would wind up spending the rest of the day together, ditching their friends (respectfully) to walk around the city together, laughing and holding hands. Nearly a decade and one little Joey later, their bond has only deepened with each shared moment, challenge and triumph.
