"Can I wear shorts?" No. "Do I have to buy a suit/dress?" No. Wear something nice! The official phrase is "cocktail, semi formal". We don't want you wearing slippers and jorts (jean shorts) fellas, but you also don't have to go out and buy a whole suit. Ladies, the only thing off limits is white. Any other color you want. No white.
