The first time our paths crossed was on the internet. After speaking for a few days, we realized we had a number of mutual friends and acquaintances. These connections were of the utmost “small world” variety. A short time later, we decided to meet at Drake’s for dinner and drinks. We had both dated a number of people throughout our 20’s, and decided to avoid the awkwardness of meeting one on one. I brought a friend, and she brought a few. As the night went on, we didn’t speak much directly, as the music was unusually loud for that particular restaurant-and other conversations chewed up much of the initial get- together. After we left, I didn’t think she liked me much or had lost interest. So, conversation over the next few days dwindled before ending entirely. A few months passed, and I found myself standing outside of Marikka’s bar-unable to enter the establishment due to an expired identification. As I stood there in freezing temperatures, contemplating what my next move was, Kristin appeared. She had met with some friends in the bar I was standing in front of. The friend who drove me to the bar had decided to enjoy his evening out, even though I was not permitted to enter the bar due to my expired license. We ended up talking for a few minutes on the sidewalk before she offered to give me a ride home. I went inside and went to sleep-and the next day she sent me a message saying it was nice to see me the evening prior. And in cliché fashion I will say that “the rest is history”.
