We'll be swimming, fishing, and boating in the reservoir! There's a boat launch! Bring your floaty, kayak, canoe, paddle board, or small motorized boat. Difficult terrain from Black Oak Campground to Stumpy Meadows Reservoir. It's recommended to access the lake from the boat launch, which is about a 4 minute drive from the campground. There is a day use picnic area with vault toilets, no running water. RV's and trailers can camp overnight at the boat launch area for a nightly fee. The Forest Service stocks the lake with Rainbow Trout.
Georgetown is a quaint little historic town that offers restaurants, grocery, and lodging.
This is where the gold rush started! Just about 40 minutes from the campground, you can visit this historical site right on the South Fork of the American River. Make sure you check out the American River Conservancy's Nature Center while you're there.
The South Fork of the American River is a whitewater MECCA! People come from all over the world to raft and kayak these waters. If you're looking for some more excitement and adventure during your trip, there are A TON of outfitters that can give you an unforgettable experience. It'll be about 40 minute drive from the campsite. Please ONLY go on a white water trip with a professional guide, the river is a destination place for a reason and those waters are FAST and STRONG!
