When we first started discussing marriage, there was much back-and-forth about how, when, and where to go about it. If it were up to Kody, we'd all be two-stepping to a live band at a get-together large enough to require its own parking garage. Kristin would more-than-likely slip away to elope quietly in the mountains somewhere. But this gathering? It's the perfect celebration of the way we've built our relationship; with communication, compromise, and by crafting a solution that beautifully encompasses what is important to each of us. You are on the short list of people that we love with our whole hearts. If Kody had his way, each of you would be a bridesmaid or a groomsman standing up beside us as we take our vows. In September of 2022, we both found ourselves back in the sludge of the dating pool. Almost a year after we'd each navigated the heartbreak of divorce, we found ourselves swiping monotonously through profiles on whichever dating app felt the least hopeless that week. Swipe, Match, Chat, Date....repeat. If it sounds a little undesirable, that's because it often was. But it was exactly what we each needed to experience as we processed and healed. Some time around the 28th of that month, they both swiped right and matched with each other. Kody was a little slow to message and Kristin was discouraged. It felt like maybe this guy wasn't the best communicator. Boy, was she wrong! For the next month, Kody continued to text, call, send memes, and ask Kristin to meet. Unfortunately, Kristin's schedule with the kids wasn't lining up well with Kody's work schedule and we didn't officially meet in person until Friday, October 28th. We had plans to go out that evening, but Kody called on a whim (around 11:00am) and asked if she had lunch plans. She didn't! So she hopped in her car and met Kody for the Friday Feast at CJ Maloney's. The lunch date went well, so we met up again to go out that evening. Then Kody called the next day and we met again for endless pasta, salad, and breadsticks. At this point, it must have been clear to each of us that there was connection, but we weren't admitting it to ourselves much less each other. October ended and November was busy. Kody got very sick, Kristin had surgery and subsequent recovery, and Kody traveled to Alabama for Thanksgiving. It's possible that both of us thought the other was ghosting and neither of us reached out again until December. From December 2022 until now, we've spent nearly every "every other weekend" together. Many, many of them were with one of you, and you were likely telling us how obviously in love we were while we relentlessly denied it. It took 10 more months for us to finally feel healed and whole enough to admit that we were, in fact, in love and ready to fully commit to one another. We officially became a couple on October 25/26, 2023 when Kristin stubbornly refused to attend Kody's birthday party as his "good friend".
