How we met - 1.23.21

Sometimes changed plans are the best plans

One of my (Kristin's) past roommates, Emily, and her husband, Ryan, had been keeping an eye out for a great guy to set me up with. They'd suggested a few before Connor, but none caught my interest until Ryan tried recruiting Connor as an insurance client. After only meeting Connor twice, Ryan said, "I've got the perfect girl for ya!" Connor, understandably in disbelief, agreed to a blind double date. I on the other hand was more optimistic when they told me about Connor! Ryan made sure to warn me about Connor being a Mizzou fan, but I decided that wasn't a deal breaker. (He failed to mention the part about him being an Iowa fan too, but it was probably for the best to find that out later... #GBR) A couple of months passed and Connor assumed the date would never happen and was actually starting to consider moving away from Omaha! But in God's perfect timing, the date got planned for the end of January. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it!) covid interfered and the blind double date couldn't happen. After having spoken all of ZERO words to each other, Connor and I had to decide if they were up for a very blind solo date... I told Emily to give Connor my number, and Connor being the man of bravery that he is, decided to call me and ask me to dinner! We met two days later at my favorite Irish Pub in Omaha, Brazen Head. It was all smooth sailing after Connor tripped on his way to the table. With Jameson Ginger ales, delicious Irish food and some of the best ranch dressing in town, 5 hours of great conversation flew by! The date only ended because the waitresses were starting to put chairs up on the tables! We both couldn't wait for our next date :) We dated "long distance" back and forth between Lincoln and Omaha for 7 months and were happy to finally be in the same city after I graduated and moved back to Omaha in August. Two months later, Connor asked the question we'd both been anxiously waiting for, "Will you marry me?!"

Engagement Story - 10.15.21

Always have a Plan C

Once upon a time there was a boy and a girl... after the boy met the world, he met the girl on a blind date. This blind date led to 9 months of dating and eventually this story behind the question, "Will you marry me?" As any good engagement story begins, it starts with a well thought out plan of which only fragments remained by the end of the night. I had already sat down with Jay and Amy, asked for Kristin's hand in marriage, picked out a ring (all on my own - ask anyone), made dinner reservations, and arranged for my family to be in town for the occasion. What could go wrong?! It started as any typical Friday "Date Night", making a visit to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (where we'll be getting married). It was here that I had planned to ask the question that would begin the rest of our lives together, but another fellow parishioner had other plans. She needed her time with Jesus, and I respect that! I had previously told Kristin we could only spend 30 minutes visiting Christ in the Blessed Sacrament because of dinner reservations... time was running out. As we sat there in prayer, my prayer was simple, "Oh Lord, please let her leave!" But, to no avail. Mission failed! Time for Plan B. I decided I was going to propose in the side chapel of our parish, the Our Lady Chapel. The nerves were kicking in, and I was worried that I had not thought everything through. Come to find out that the Our Lady Chapel was occupied, too! Cue the panic... Time for Plan C. Which, if I am honest, there wasn't much of one since there was a wedding rehearsal going on in the main chapel when we arrived earlier that night. But, thanks to Divine Providence, the rehearsal was finished by then. So I decided I would propose in the place where we are to be married this July, in front of the altar and at the foot of the Cross. We would have it no other way. It just goes to show that you should always trust in the Lord and have a Plan C ready!
