Question

Tips for Celebrating in the Mile High City!

Answer

• Stay Hydrated • Altitude sickness is a real thing and it's no fun... Drinking plenty of water before and during your visit to help your body adjust. Hydration will greatly lessen your risk of feeling ill! • Pace Your Drinking • No seriously... due to the change in altitude alcohol hits you harder and faster. So, cheers in moderation! • Watch Your Physical Activity • Even seasoned athletes feel the difference here due to elevation change. If you are active, consider easing into your routine and taking things in moderation. • Pack for Sun Exposure • Again, due to elevation there’s 25 percent less protection from the sun. I was guilty in not taking this seriously... and it's ended in painful, painful sunburn. Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and SPF lip balm are your lifeline. • Dress in layers • Denver days are generally very sunny and warm. BUT as a high desert climate, without the sun things get cool very quickly, so plan for shade, mornings and evening temps. • Eat Potassium-Rich Foods • Bananas, avocados, and leafy greens help balance electrolytes and help defend yourself against altitude sickness.
