We were set up by mutual friends. He was friends with, the now husband, of my friend. They both thought we’d be a good match. We met in a group at $1 beer night at a Tortugas baseball game in Daytona. After the game we all went out for food and drinks. At the time he was 25 and I was 32. I was very hesitant about going any further because of the age difference, but he was such a genuinely nice person that I wanted to spend more time with him. The age difference hasn’t bothered us at all!
When I moved to Savannah he, of course, came and helped me move. The night before he was supposed to leave we went downtown for date night. After dinner we got ice cream, then he drove to the bed & breakfast we stayed in when I took him to Savannah for his birthday the first year we were together. By this point it was pouring down rain. He stopped at the square across from the bed & breakfast, as the rain poured. He told me where we were, meanwhile I was snacking down on my ice cream. Since the rain didn’t let up, we left. I found out later that’s where he wanted to propose. However, he surprised me the next morning. He took my golden retriever, Stout, out for a walk. When they came back he dropped his leash and Stout walked to me. He asked me to take his leash off him. When I looked down he had the ring on the leash. I looked up and he was in front of me on one knee. It was perfect.
