Downtown Raleigh is great - big enough to have lots of neat shops, museums, restaurants and bars. 
 
Downtown Raleigh has two neat new food halls. Morgan Street Food Hall and Transfer Co..

The Raleigh Flea Market is fun.  It is open each weekend at the State Fairgrounds, a short drive. 

Capital Area Greenway System has access to lots of walking trails and parks.

For entertaining kids try the Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh. 

There are several museums downtown, including the NC Museums of Natural Science and History, the City of Raleigh Museum, and our new Contemporary Art Museum.

The Cameron Village area includes several blocks of interesting shops and restaurants, a short drive (or long walk) from downtown.  Crabtree Valley Mall is in central Raleigh, a short drive from downtown.
