After a few more conversations—and a few more drinks—they shared a New Year's kiss under the fireworks at midnight. It was a perfect 85-degree Saturday in June, and Kristi and Pat were eagerly waiting for their friend Kevin to propose to his girlfriend Kasie, along with Emily, Travis, Alex, and Evan—or at least, that’s what Kristi thought. Kristi, Pat, Alex, and Evan had previously vacationed in the Dominican Republic to celebrate Kristi and Evan’s birthdays, which are just one day apart. During that trip, they met two other couples: Kevin and Kasie from New Jersey, and Emily and Travis from Canada. When Kevin and Kasie decided to visit Indiana, Pat knew it was the perfect time to propose. The question was—where and how? Especially since Kristi was notoriously hard to surprise. Restoration Hardware, with its scenic backdrop overlooking a small lake, was chosen as the perfect spot, and they all agreed to take couple photos—with Kevin and Kasie going last for the "proposal." When it was Kristi and Pat’s turn, Kristi noticed Pat was visibly nervous. As they posed, Pat leaned in and whispered that he loved her, wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and revealed that everyone had been in on the plan all along. Pat got down on one knee, and Kristi was completely stunned—she couldn't believe it! Of course, she said yes. They shared a kiss, and everyone celebrated with a champagne toast.
