I knew Kristi was the one from the moment I met her. Our first date was on a brisk winter night in Boston where she agreed to get drinks with me. The night passed by quickly, as we traded stories of our shared love for Nantucket, waterskiing, and travel. She patiently listened to me tell stories about my adventures skiing and, in turn, told me about her nuanced love of Taylor Swift. More than a little confident, I asked her on a second date for the very next day and she agreed. Almost two years later, Jack and I had plans to go to Nantucket in the middle of December. We love spending winter weekends there to get away from everything and enjoy each other’s company. Nantucket being a ferry ride away though can cause some issues, and this weekend was no different. On Friday we woke up to an awful storm with ferries getting canceled. I’d had an inkling Jack had something up his sleeve for our weekend away, but as we kissed our travel plans goodbye, he didn’t show any signs of worry. On Saturday I asked if we could go get a nice dinner since the Nantucket trip didn’t work out. Jack agreed and I set up reservations at Yvonne’s in downtown Boston. We had a perfect table in the back corner and before even getting our drinks, Jack was down on one knee. At this point I can’t remember anything that was said, I was in shock and tears were immediately streaming down my face. I knew Jack was the one from the moment I met him, and now it was a reality. We’ve been lucky enough to see our friends become friends, our loved ones get married, and our families come together.
