Question

Why did you postpone the wedding from 2020 to 2022? And then you choose to Elope?

Answer

With the reality that Covid was not going anywhere anytime soon, we decided to play it safe, originally postponing our special event. While we were waiting to see if things would get better & return to some semblance of normal, we decided to elope. Through all of this uncertain pandemic time, our commitment to getting together & celebrating in a sacred space has not wavered at all, May 20, 2022 will be the culmination of our elopement tour which began in late May 2021 on San Juan Island where we exchanged our rings & initial vows, seated on the sunny Prairie surrounded by Fox, Hare & the waters of the Salish Sea. Between then & our gathering in May we will be continuing to visit special places around the PNW to share more sacred moments together. Our stops will correspond to the 4 directions & the 4 seasons w/ the May 20th party marking a coming back to our Center Place. We realize that this is our own unique path that we've decided to take.

Question

West Coast & East Coast Parties?

Answer

May 20th will be the a party and public recognition of our marriage here in the PNW where we call home (our Center Place). We will also be planning a second party and community recognition of our marriage on the East Coast some time later in 2022. Please know that if you cannot make it in May to Camano Island for whatever reason, we will be getting together again on the East Coast in Kristian's homeland of Pennsylvania.

Question

What time should I arrive? What is the schedule for the evening?

Answer

We have our venue from 4pm to 10pm. Please arrive anytime in those hours and share in our celebratory party to recognize our marriage. We will be serving wine and beer starting at 4pm. Our officiants will hold a brief ceremony at 5pm. Afterwards we will all enjoy some shared potluck dishes, music, and the rest of the evening together.

Question

A barn? What's it like in there? Is the barn heated?

Answer

Yes. The Barn is an aluminum sided structure with a cement floor. There is a large barn door that opens to the beautiful view of the meadow and Meadow Lawn. Attached to the building is a large covered area with cement floor. The Barn also has infrared heat which will be cozy in chillier Spring weather. Adjacent to the Barn is a lovely outdoor area with a tree canopy

Question

An Island? You're celebrating on an Island? Do I have to take a boat to get there?

Answer

Camano Island is attached to the mainland by a bridge and is easily accessed by car. Simply take route 532 from Stanwood directly onto Camano Island. Easy.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Layers. We want you to stay warm and comfortable as well as to look fabulous. Spring in the PNW can be chilling in the evenings. We will be inside a heated barn and outdoors on the lawn under the tree canopy as well. Plan for indoor / outdoor festive attire.

Question

Where do we park?

Answer

There is a lighted parking area in the public park which has 27 curbed spaces and 1 handicapped spot. The big lawn adjacent to the parking area can be utilized for overflow parking.

Question

Do I have to hold it?

Answer

No, there are bathrooms. There are two wheelchair accessible, heated, plumbed toilet facilities located adjacent the barn and lawn area.

Question

How do I RSVP for the potluck?

Answer

We are asking everyone local to help provide food for us all, especially for our out of town guests.  If you can contribute a potluck dish please let us know by emailing us at krisboose@gmail.com to let us know what you'll be bringing or to ask any questions about making your recipe gluten free.   Please plan on bringing your own serving dish and serving utensils and make sure they are labeled with your name so everything gets back to you at the end of the evening.  Also please make a note card with the ingredients of your potluck dish so everyone knows what they are being served.

Question

Gluten free? I don't know how to cook gluten free! Help!

Answer

Yes, we are both gluten free (gf). We cannot eat the proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, or oats not certified as gluten free. We will get sick. We understand this can be a bit challenging and confusing at first. Eating gluten free isn't as tough or scary as it sounds actually. It's a lot easier these days than ever before. A lot of foods are naturally gluten free like meat, fruit, veggies, and dairy. If it doesn't come in a package most likely it's safe. If ever in doubt look at the packaging for the gf label and ingredient listings. There are now so many good gf foods and substitutes available. Pasta, 1 for 1 flour mixes, baking mixes and breads are all now easily and readily available even in most conventional supermarkets. If you have any questions about how to make your potluck recipe gluten free just get in touch with us and we'll help you with it so we can all enjoy delicious foods on our special day.

Question

Will you have a photographer?

Answer

We are asking all of you to bring a camera or your phone and capture photographs along the way. We love the idea of having so many different informal perspectives of the day. Candid real life shots of the moments thru your eyes, what you see, what you think is important or moving to you. In the days and weeks after we will reach out and connect with all of you for an opportunity to share whichever ones you want. We'd be honored to include them in the album we will compile to commemorate this special occasion in our lives.

Question

Why mention being on Native lands?

Answer

If you're wondering what a Land Acknowledgement is, it is opening remarks that say the land that the event is on is (or was) the homeland of a specific Native Nation. It is meant to create awareness. Territory acknowledgement is a way that people insert an awareness of Indigenous presence and land rights in everyday life. All settlers have a responsibility to consider what it means to acknowledge the history and legacy of colonialism. http://coastsalishmap.org/start_page.htm https://native-land.ca/

Question

What if I have questions that aren't addressed here in the FAQ?
