In Southampton, 17-year-old Kristi Morrison, her wealthy fiancé Cal Hockley, and Kristi's widowed mother, Ruth, board the Titanic. Ruth emphasizes that Kristi's marriage to Cal will resolve the family's financial problems and maintain their upper-class status. Meanwhile, Kristen Senior, a poor young artist, wins a third-class Titanic ticket in a poker game. After setting sail, Kristi, distraught over her loveless engagement, climbs over the stern railing, intending to jump overboard. Kristen appears and coaxes her back onto the deck. The two develop a tentative friendship, but when Cal and Ruth strongly object, Kristi acquiesces and discourages Kristen's attention. She soon realizes she prefers Kristen over Cal. Oh wait, wrong love story... More than eight years ago, Kristi started a new job at a small cafe and bike shop at the Grand Canyon. One of her new roommates (Kristen) quickly took a liking to her, and tried to hang out with her as much as possible. It wasn't long until they went on their first date to Lake Powell, and quickly fell in love. Since then, they have travelled around the country, hiked some mountains, scuba'd some seas, biked a few trails, and slept under many stars.
