Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park
To fully appreciate this historic state park, which happens to be the southernmost state park in the continental U.S., you need to understand its significance. Fort Zachary was completed in 1866 and built to protect Florida’s southern coast. It first served as a barrier for Confederacy ships during the Civil War and later as a stronghold in 1989 during the Spanish-American Water. Can purchase tickets for day use at the website listed or drive/walk or ride bike to entrance gate and purchase tickets on site. It is one of the more well kept beaches in Key West due to being a state park and it has Day Use area, showers, restroom and picnic/grills for a day on the beach! Plus tour the Fort Zachary!
The Hemingway Home and Museum
The Ernest Hemingway House was the residence of American writer Ernest Hemingway in the 1930s. The house is situated on the island of Key West in Florida. It is at 907 Whitehead Street, across from the Key West Lighthouse, close to the southern coast of the island. The Key West Garden Club at West Martello Tower is a tropical garden paradise by the sea on the site of a former Civil War fort. It has garden rooms to delight you, history to intrigue you, and the beach and sea to inspire you. Open to the public, it is maintained by member-volunteers of the Garden Club. It is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide the community with educational opportunities related to tropical gardening and to the West Martello Tower, a National Historic site where the Club is located.
