To fully appreciate this historic state park, which happens to be the southernmost state park in the continental U.S., you need to understand its significance. Fort Zachary was completed in 1866 and built to protect Florida’s southern coast. It first served as a barrier for Confederacy ships during the Civil War and later as a stronghold in 1989 during the Spanish-American Water. Can purchase tickets for day use at the website listed or drive/walk or ride bike to entrance gate and purchase tickets on site. It is one of the more well kept beaches in Key West due to being a state park and it has Day Use area, showers, restroom and picnic/grills for a day on the beach! Plus tour the Fort Zachary!
