Our Wedding

October 8, 2021

I never dreamed of a fairytale wedding. I honestly did not think marriage was even a possibility for a very long time. By 2016 when marriage became a reality, my fairytale was love and connection - not lace and centerpieces. My sister and her family left for a three-year deployment Guam on Sunday, September 1, 2018, and I was heartbroken. Because there are no coincidences in the world, Katelyn and I met on was a rainy Tuesday in Washington, D.C., on Monday, September 2nd. We went to dinner, talked about a zillion different things, and had a great time. I called my sister after on my way home to tell her I was sure Katelyn wouldn't call me back because she walked me to the car and only gave me a hug. Katelyn text me on the way home and we haven't stopped talking since. We were engaged on October 12, 2020. We did not want a long engagement, but planning a wedding was daunting. As the COVID-19 pandemic raged, it became apparent the celebration was going to be small. Almost a year later, we decided to get married the way we started out -- just the two of us. On Friday, October 8, 2021, we went to the DC Courthouse and got our marriage license. We had tacos and tequila then went over to the US Supreme Court and were married in front of God and Lady Justice in the same place where we earned the right to enter the covenant. It was simple and funny (I forgot to bring the license) and perfectly us. Although we would love to celebrate with each and every one of you, please know that we felt all the love and support you sent our way. Thank you all for coming along on this journey so far. We can't wait to see where life takes us next.
