A unique Berkeley park, as the name suggests it is just a large rock, and if that's not enough for you there are steps carved into the side to allow (relatively) easy access up to the top and a great view out over the bay. One of our favorite dates is to grab Cheeseboard pizza and then drive up and eat on top of the rock at sunset. For the adventurous there is also some fun bouldering around the base of the rock.
Delicious pizza done in a non-traditional fashion. Everyday they make only one type of pizza and then have them hot and ready to go as soon as you order one. This has become a Berkeley institution and you will often see the line out the door for this delicious pizza, however since there is only one option, the line moves very quickly and a line to the end of the block is only maybe a 10 min wait and in our opinion well worth it. We suggest the pizza no matter what they are making as some of their topping choices may sound strange but have always been delicious, they do list their pizza of the day on their website if you would like to confirm ahead of time.
Why come to Berkeley for Chicago style pizza? Well because it is good, we make no claim that it is better than Chicago style pizza anywhere else but it is quite delicious, we particularly like their spinach and mushroom deep dish pizza.
For those of you wanting to buy groceries we recommend giving Berkeley Bowl a try, this local grocery store has a great selection and atmosphere as well as the best prices around on produce. and kombucha on tap!
This is one of our favorite weekend escapes with its trails that stretch from the beach up to the redwoods and impressive view of the bay area. A sunset here or swing in our favorite eucalyptus tree is especially enchanting.
Less than a half hour hike from our venue, this place is pretty cool!
