Things To Do

Our wedding is in what's known as "Old Town Spring" and gives that true small-town Texas feel while still being close to the city of Houston. Old Town Spring has plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars and makes for a cool place to hang out for the weekend. For our New Orleans friends, drinking on the street is legal here (just make sure to ask the bartenders where you can go with your drinks just to be safe)! Houston is a giant city full of everything you can imagine. From bars to restaurants to family activities (indoors and outdoors), there are endless possibilities. Below is a few of our favorites both in Old Town Spring and Houston in general!

Prohibition Texas

118 Midway Street, Spring, TX 77373

A short walk down the block from our wedding venue, Prohibition is cool bar that specializes in Old Fashioneds and anything bourbon. Check out their cool cigar bar if that's your thing!

Wunsche Bros. Cafe & Saloon

103 Midway Street, Spring, TX 77373

Opened originally as a hotel, brothel, and saloon built for railroad workers and travelers, now it's a really solid place to grab a bite. Check out the second floor, it's all still original.

CorkScrew BBQ

26608 Keith Street, Spring, TX 77373

Michelin star BBQ located in the small town of Old Town Spring around the corner from our wedding venue. Be prepared for a line! We'd recommend getting there before it opens to get a good spot in line if BBQ is your thing.

Excalibur Brewing

26510 A Border Street, Spring, TX 77373

If small town breweries are your thing, you have to check this place out. The beer is really good and the service is outstanding.

Pappasito's Cantina

Houston, TX 77090

For those who haven't had the life changing experience of real Tex-Mex, Pappasito's is a great first introduction to it. Make sure to get the queso and the fajitas (don't forget to drench the fajitas in the butter).

Houston Zoo

6200 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, TX 77030

As proud annual members, we visit the zoo quite often. The trick is to get there 15 minutes before it opens, otherwise parking is a nightmare. Pro tip, grab you some breakfast tacos from a place like Laredo Taqueria or Villa Arcos and eat them in the car while you wait for the zoo to open.

Laredo Taqueria

915 Snover Street, Houston, TX 77007

One of our go-to breakfast taco spots. Can't go wrong with anything you order.

Villa Arcos

3009 Navigation Boulevard, Houston, TX 77003

One of our other go-to breakfast taco spots. You won't be disappointed!

Houston Museum of Natural Science

5555 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, TX 77030

Another place we are proud annual members of. We go to most of their after-hours food and drink events. 4 floors of incredibly well detailed and well executed science exhibits. Worth the trip if you have the time.

Space Center Houston

1601 East Nasa Parkway, Houston, TX 77058

What Houston is really known for. If you are even remotely interested in space, you need to check this out. Make sure to book the mission control tour ahead of time. One of the coolest experiences you can do in the Houston area in our opinion.

Anvil

1424 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77006

Our favorite bar of all time (and we have been to a lot of bars). Fair warning, it gets busy, so we try to get there right around when they open to snag a spot at the bar.

Flora

3422 Allen Parkway, Houston, TX 77019

One of our go-to spots for dinner/happy hour. Walkable distance from our apartment, we spent many nights walking there and hanging out at the bar. If you sit at the bar, tell Carlos we said hey. Located in Buffalo Bayou, the scenery around the restaurant is hard to beat. Sunday brunch is one of their specialties but make sure you have reservations if you plan on going.

Kata Robata

3600 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77098

If sushi is your thing, definitely check this place out. Sister restaurant to Katami (one of the top places in the city), it's the same quality for a much more reasonable price. Sit at the sushi bar and make sure to get the Wagyu Katsu Sando, it's our personal favorite.

Saint Arnold Brewing Company

2000 Lyons Avenue, Houston, TX 77020

One of our go-to places to go hangout with Roux. The beer garden has a really cool atmosphere. Their food is amazing (get one of the pizzas) and the beer is really high quality.

The Toasted Coconut

1617 Richmond Avenue, Houston, TX 77006

Usually a place we bring people to when they come to visit for the first time. Great for getting some appetizers to split. Make sure to get the lamb flatbread, it's our personal favorite. Also, if you go for dinner, ask if they have room in their speakeasy for you once you finish eating. It's a really cool spot to checkout.
