How We Met

January 2015

We met each other through an online dating site! Kristen: I was new to online dating, and I had gone on two previous dates; neither of which went beyond a first date. I remember two specific things about Henry when he reached out to me. First, when I scrolled through his photos, I won't lie... when I saw the photo of him that indicated that he was a drummer, that may have piqued my interest just a bit. Secondly, he was the first guy who didn't use any sleezy pickup lines; he talked to me like an actual person. He asked me if I liked to fish, and I explained that I had gone a few times when I was younger and that I'd up be for trying it again, but that I also always felt bad for hurting the fish. He responded by telling me a fishing joke by one of his favorite comedians, Mitch Hedberg. We ended up having our first date at a local bar/restaurant for pub trivia night. I remember we talked for hours. Henry: So here's the joke: "You know when they have a fishing show on TV? They catch the fish and then let it go. They don't want to eat the fish, they just want to make it late for something."

Our Wedding

10.17.21

We are so excited for our big day and for all of the days that follow! We will be heading out of state, where we will have a private ceremony (without guests). When we thought about our vision for the perfect wedding day, we both agreed that it felt more "us" to keep it simple, by eliminating some of the elements of a traditional wedding and planning the most exciting adventure-filled day together. We will definitely be sharing our wedding photos on our page once we are back.

The Proposal

10.31.20

Kristen: We had gone away for the weekend to our favorite spot, Caddo Lake, in East Texas. It's become a tradition to go at least 2-3 times per year, and we stay in this cute little cabin right next to the water and take a friend's boat out to do some bass fishing. Caddo Lake is not like your typical lake in TX. It's a peaceful oasis, with tall cypress trees sticking up in the middle of the water, draped in Spanish moss, and an abundance of birds singing high up in the trees. On this particular day, we decided to have a picnic on the boat at a special spot we'd been to last time, so we made our way there and tied up to a tree. Right where we tied up, there was a family of woodpeckers flying to and from the tree, and I was fixated on them, trying to get some photos. The sky was perfectly blue. I went to get my lunch out of the cooler, and that's when it happened. I will never forget the things he said and the look on his face. Everything about it was perfection. Henry: So, she said she had no idea I was going to propose and that I looked completely calm... that is, until I started talking. By the end I was bawling like a schoolgirl; Kristen looked completely calm. I'm glad she remembers everything I said because I can't remember a word. She is right about one thing though, it was simply perfect!
