How we met

January 4, 2018

We like to say we met the old fashioned way....Match.com. That's now considered old fashioned, right? From Frank's online profile Krista noticed he, like her, worked at a children's hospital, was fun and active, and owned a road bike. Frank was impressed by Krista's willingness to give of herself to others through being a teacher and a nurse and serving in the Peace Corps. Frank, being "old fashioned," asked if he could call Krista on the phone. A few days after a pleasant phone conversation we found ourselves at a rooftop bar on our first date unknowingly in the middle of a large speed dating event. After realizing what was taking place around us, Krista did not want Frank to go to the bathroom in fear of someone thinking it was their turn to sit at our table. (It was mycheekydate.com if anyone is single and curious). From then on our relationship continued to bloom with every new adventure, including bike rides, a 24-hour plane trip to South Africa, and a bungee jump off a bridge. We continue to look forward to experiencing all of life's adventures together.

The Proposal

December 8, 2018

Frank lives in a neighbor near downtown Houston called The Heights. Every year during Christmas season there is a popular event called Lights in the Heights in which extensively holiday decorated homes along two long streets have bands, DJs, bell choirs, dancers, and carolers performing on front porches and lawns. The two streets are blocked off to traffic and set up to create a loop to walk around so people can enjoy the music, performers, and holiday decor. Living near the annual event, Frank always throws a little holiday party on that night, and if you know Krista, she likes to throw and host house parties as well. Since she is also a control freak, on the morning of the event she told Frank she had all of the shopping and preparation taken care of and he could spend the morning going to the gym or running errands. Well...Frank did not show up back at the house until the party was about to start. Krista had become more than a little upset by Frank's being gone most of the day, leaving her with all of the cooking and preparation. Krista decided she would wait to have a "crucial conversation" with Frank the next day, so as not to let it ruin the party. Both Krista's and Frank's friends came, and the party was a lot of fun. After a great time of walking with our friends along the event route and enjoying the Lights in the Heights, we rounded the corner to come back to Frank's house. It was there that Krista realized why Frank had been MIA all day. There on the side of Frank's house, spelled out in Christmas lights, was the proposal "WILL YOU MARRY ME?. That's what he had spent most of the day creating. There by the Christmas light proposal, Frank got down on one knee, and before he had a chance to pop the question, Krista said "Yes." All of our friends, including Frank's family, had been waiting on the front porch to witness the moment. Frank even arranged for Krista's dad and sister to see it in real time on FaceTime. All was forgiven.
