Right after my senior year of high school ended, my church youth group was headed off to Salt Lake City to work at the United Methodist Committee on Relief Depot. Little did I know that Matt, whom I had briefly met in December, would be joining us on the trip. After working in the depot for a week, and not really speaking too much we bonded over walks around town and long games of Mario Kart.
After a random suggestion by Matt to head to the beach for New Years, we finally arrived and checked into our hotel right before the sunset began. We quickly made our way towards the beach to catch the sunset over the water. Matt set his eyes on a spot, and went right for it, while I slowly plodded along after. It was mildly windy, so when Matt began to shiver as he was speaking nervously, I thought he was just cold. I was absolutely clueless that he was going to propose until he was down on one knee. Before I could blink he was down on one knee and asked: "Will you marry me?"
