Our Story

07.04.2014

Rewind to 2014 in the town of Vero Beach, FL, where Krista and Henry met and grew up. A mutual friend loosely introduced the two, with Henry suggesting that they all hang out at his mother's horse farm. Exhausted from a long and unforgettable vacation in New York with her second fam, the Finkelsteins, she seemed pretty disinterested in the prospect. However, his “gentle, intriguing demeanor and persistence” (charm?) changed her mind. His first instinct was to throw her on the back of a dirt bike in the dead of night to wake her up. She exclaimed "if you kill me, you're dead", to which he responded "well, we'll both be dead..." Thankfully they both survived to tell the tale. Weeks later come the first date, Henry borrowed a vintage Bentley from Tifton (a dear family friend) to pick up Krista and make an impression; much to his dismay, she admired the vehicle, but had not a clue what it was. After returning from the date, Krista's mother (impressed by the vehicle and Henry's slick moves) asked how things went and warned Krista not to let all her exceptional "weirdness" out at once (“remember, easy does it”); that didn't work. The floodgates we're open and Krista went full-blown weirdo. And Henry loved every minute of it, forever converted to an arguably weirder weirdo. Fast forward three cities, six years, Krista mastering her Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy, Henry switching careers, long-distance dating, a pandemic and cross-country move (during the pandemic) to the colorful state of Colorado. Henry decided it was (finally) time to pop the question on a hiking trip in Florissant, CO near Pike’s Peak with their yellow pupper, Tucker. After Henry researched the rather innocuous “Pancake Rock”, he was convinced he found the perfect backdrop for a romantic proposal. Six long miles ending in a spectacular view, they set out from the trailhead only to have a couple instead suggest the waterfall hike. Cue Henry’s anxiety and mutual disappointment when they discovered a dark, damp, glorified trickle instead. “Two hikes in one!” he suggested, intent to press on toward Pancake. Some hours later after much convincing and encouragement along the way, the two (plus pupper Tucker) summited to a view of golden Aspen trees. While Krista stopped to take in the beauty, Henry fumbled around for the ring and secured it to Tucker’s bandana and commanded that he run over to his momma. As you could imagine, things didn’t exactly go to plan. Spastically and energetically, Tucker dashed between them, ring jingling around his neck. Rightfully nervous about the ring, Henry asked Krista to check his bandana, who seemed a little curious and skeptical, maybe even catching on a bit. “Why can’t you check his bandana?”, she exclaimed, incredulously. Finally, having noticed the “rock on the rock”, she trembled with it in her hands as Henry mustered the only words he could find: “Do you like it?”, repeatedly. “I’m such an idiot – will you marry me, Krista?” to which she responded “Yes, obviously!” The rest is history.
