Travel

We'll be listing out our cost saving travel tips as well as any flight or hotel blocks we get.

Travel Note

Japan Guide

We threw together a guide to hopefully answer any outstanding questions about traveling to Japan. It contains information regarding our itinerary, as well as what we would think are Frequently Asked Questions. Please take a look!

Stay and Lodging information

Zola has gathered a list of negotiated discounted rates for some hotels and share hostels. Feel free to book these on your own or wait on a potential hotel block (at the moment, most places we've requested quotes on have not gotten back to us). Alternatively, try looking into a group booking of a large house via AirBNB or a hostel.

Train

Japan Rail Pass

A convenient AND cost-efficient* train pass that is a joint collaboration with 6 companies comprising the JR Group for a flat rate (*Oct 2024 had a price increase, consider how many bullet train rides you'll take against the cost of the pass) There are 2 types of passes, the Green Car and Standard Car, of which BOTH types can be purchased for 7 days, 14 days, or 21 day spans. Most tourist locations in Tokyo can be accessed via JR trains. Tourist destinations such as Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima can be accessed via JR Lines' Bullet Trains (Shinkansen - 新幹線). NOTE: Be sure to read the eligibility requirements

Useful Phrases

While Google Translate has improved considerably, what if you don't get signal, what if your pocket WIFI dies? Here are some useful travel phrases to have on hand. Maybe screenshot this article or print it for offline use :)

Travel Note

Pocket WiFi

Depending on your cellphone provider, you may have access to international roaming data. If not, we recommend keeping connected online with the use of the following: - pocket wifi rental (pros: multiple people can share it's usage. cost efficient with multiple cellphones. It's a rental. cons: its another thing to keep in your bag. Must be ordered 1-3 days before your trip) - E-sim (pros: digital sim card. useful for solo travelers. quick. what more can be said. cons: we've never tried it.) link - https://tokyocheapo.com/business/internet/esim-japan-travel/ - Prepaid Sim card (pros: smaller than pocket wifi. convenient for single user. most tech stores sell them. cons: another piece of trash to get rid of after your trip)

For all the days along the way
